Abstract Submission
The 16th International Conference of the Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRiM) 2026 invites researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society actors to contribute to this critical global dialogue by submitting abstracts for oral and poster presentations at IDRiM 2026, to be held on 5–9 September 2026 in Bali, Indonesia.
Conference Theme
Resilient Cities in Multi-Hazard Crises: Bridging Innovation, Implementation Science, and Grassroots Action
IDRiM 2026 focuses on strengthening urban resilience in the face of multi-hazard crises by connecting:
- Scientific innovation (including AI, GeoAI, digital twins, and data-driven risk analysis),
- Implementation science that translates evidence into scalable policy and practice, and
- Grassroots and locally led action that ensures equity, inclusiveness, and sustainability.
The conference emphasizes what works in real-world contexts—highlighting pathways for turning research into policies, financing mechanisms, institutional reforms, and community-driven solutions that reduce risk and build long-term resilience.

What We Are Looking For
We welcome original, interdisciplinary, and practice-oriented contributions that align with the conference theme and thematic tracks. Submissions may include:
- Empirical research, modeling, and systems analysis
- Policy and governance studies
- Implementation and process evaluations
- Community-based and locally led initiatives
- Lessons learned from practice, pilot projects, and field implementation
Contributors are encouraged to demonstrate how science, policy, finance, communication, and community action intersect to produce equitable and actionable disaster risk reduction outcomes.
Publication Opportunities
Accepted abstracts will be invited to give oral presentations. Authors who wish to pursue publication opportunities may later submit full papers for consideration in:
- SCOPUS-indexed journals
- SCOPUS-indexed conference proceedings
- The IDRiM Journal
Please note that full paper submission is optional and not required at the abstract stage.
Young Scientists Session (YSS)
IDRiM 2026 continues its strong commitment to supporting early-career researchers and practitioners through the Young Scientists Session (YSS). Selected young contributors will compete for the Best Young Scientist Awards, with top three awardees invited to present at a dedicated academic session in 2027.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Qualifications to be a Young Scientist are not determined by age or position.
- Presenters at past YSS events have primarily been:
- Graduate students (including Master’s).
- PhD candidates.
- Researchers who received their PhD within the past four years.
- Practitioners who have started working in the disaster risk management field within the last four years.
- Researchers making their debut in an international academic discussion.
- These time limits do not include periods of absence due to illness, family illness, or maternity leave.
- Individuals who pursued a PhD later in life, after a significant career in the field, may not automatically qualify. Eligibility will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the YSS committee.
Join the Global Conversation
IDRiM 2026 is more than a conference—it is a collaborative platform for shaping the future of urban resilience in a rapidly changing risk landscape. We invite you to contribute your research, insights, and experiences, and to engage with a global community committed to advancing integrated, inclusive, and actionable disaster risk management.
All abstracts will be reviewed by the IDRiM Scientific Committee. Upon acceptance, authors will be notified by email. Authors are kindly requested to use the proposed template and follow the instructions accurately.
Abstract submission guidelines, thematic tracks, key dates, and templates are available in the Call for Abstracts document below.
Call for Sessions Proposals Guidelines
The 16th International Conference of the Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRiM) Society invites researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society actors to contribute to this critical global dialogue through curated workshops, panel discussions, and roundtables focusing on specialised topics related to disaster risk and urban resilience. These sessions provide an interactive platform for dialogue and collaboration, featuring activities such as simulation, policy debates, and joint action planning exercises. Consistent with IDRiM’s mission to bridge research and practice, such sessions aim to foster multi-stakeholder engagement, promote innovative solutions, and enhance collective capacity for disaster risk reduction. Proposals for these sessions may be submitted by IDRiM Society members, the local host institutions, or other interested individuals and groups committed to advancing resilience and sustainable development.
A formal proposal for a Special Session is required from one of the designated session leadership roles, including the Convener(s), Moderator(s), Coordinator(s), or Chair(s). The proposer is responsible for conveying all session details to the contributing participants. Individuals are permitted to submit proposals for multiple Special Sessions; however, all submissions are contingent upon review by the committee.
For current proposal submissions, you are not required to upload any materials (e.g., PowerPoint slides). If your session is accepted, the committee will provide detailed guidelines at a later date.
Young Scientists Session (YSS)
Early-career researchers, scientists, and practitioners are a vital part of academia and professional practice, often contributing innovative research and ideas that can either support or constructively challenge current norms. However, a significant concern is the rapid attrition rate, with many young scientists leaving academia within three years of completing their programs. This loss means their valuable ideas and research frequently miss out on the necessary exposure. To address this, the Annual IDRiM conference hosts the Young Scientists Session (YSS). The YSS invites these emerging researchers, scientists, and practitioners to submit their groundbreaking ideas and research for oral presentation to a broad audience.
Consistent with IDRiM tradition, the conference will feature a “Best Young Scientist Award” competition. The top three YSS awardees from IDRiM 2026 will receive the prestigious opportunity to deliver a full, academic-style presentation at a specially organized session during the 2027 conference.
